About Kick The Gong

Kick the gong is an old phrase, picked up by this writer from several Cab Callaway and Jack Kerouac references.  This site has is in no way associated with these references. What’s that?  You’re not familiar with “kick the gong.”   The phrase dates back (to the best of my knowledge) to street slang from the 30s and the Great Depression.  I first came across it in Callaway’s famed “Minnie the Moocher” in which he croons:

She [Minnie] messed around with a bloke named Smokey
She loved him though he was cokey
He took her down to Chinatown and showed her to kick the gong around

So…what does it mean?  Old Smokey taught Minnie to smoke opium.

This site has nothing to do with historic street slang.  The phrase simply stuck in my mind for several years.  When it came time to pick a URL, it popped in and wouldn’t leave.

What does it mean to me (and you as a reader of this site)?  In a nutshell; it’s a forum to make some noise and see what resonates.

There you have it.  That’s what you can expect from this site.  This writer spewing his mind into HTML.  Topics will vary, as will your interest I suspect.  In any case, I plan to write what’s on my mind.

Cheers!  Here’s to the adventure awaiting us all.  Let’s see where this first post takes us.
